While visiting the Húsavik Whale Museum (which I loved, and which every person I met in Iceland also loved because it’s awesome), I came across this label gem.
Knowledge of the reproductive behaviour of cetaceans in their natural environment is limited. It is know, however, that whales are intensely sexual animals, using sex not only for reproduction, but also for the establishment and maintenance of bonds among all individuals. (emphasis mine)
I think I’ve only been visiting the prudish whale museums up until now.
I love coming across those pieces of text that just pop – because they’re beautiful, poignant, interesting, or just unexpected. And now I’m somewhat of an expert on whale sexy times.
